Maria When do you start school in England? L Tony In England, children usually start school when they are five years old. Sometimes - children go to ‘playschool’. These are schools for children who are three or four years old.
At playschool you learn to draw and sing . songs and play games, but you don’t start reading or writing or doing maths.
Children go to ‘junior’ school from the age-o£-~ five to eleven. When they are eleven or twelve years old they go to ‘secondary’ school.
And what do you do at school every day? Schools usually start at nine o’clock in the morning. At eleven o’clock, the children go outside and play. Then they go to class again. Lunch-time is usually at half past twelve.
Lessons start again at two o’clock and they finish at half past three. Sometimes there is an extra hour after school. Students play football or go to a school club, like the ‘Computer Club' or the ‘Swimming Club’. Usually they go home at half past three.
